ATLANTA THRASHERS AT TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS–FEBRUARY 7, 2011
Neither team in particularly good form at the moment. Thrashers have lost 10 of their last 12 and are a far cry from the team that looked like a Stanley Cup contender in December. They’ve been hit hard by injuries and with backup goaltender Chris Mason having been out of action starter Ondrej Pavelec has had to carry the load. Mason was activated off the IR list on Friday and his short term replacement, Drew MacIntyre, was sent back to Chicago of the AHL. Atlant

Ottawa (+210) @ Vancouver (-250); Total set at 5.5
The late game in the NHL features two Canadian teams that have gone in complete opposite directions this season and while the Canucks have a championship in their sights, the Senators are already looking at who to draft with their likely top five selection. The Senators already got dominated by Vancouver in Ottawa this year in a 6-2 loss and they really can’t be too hopeful as big underdogs tonight.

San Jose (+100) @ L.A. (-120); Total set at 5.5
Both these teams had over 100 points last season and made the playoffs but this year they find themselves on the outside looking in and even with the All-Star break starting tomorrow, every point is crucial. Both are playing their starting goaltenders tonight as both the Sharks and Kings look to continue their respective winning streaks.
The Sharks hold a 2-1 edge in their three meetings already this season, including winning 1-0 last time they were in Hollywood on New Year’s day. They have won four straight after enduring a six-game losing streak as they are riding the improved play of goalie Antti Niemi. H

The rearranged King George VI Chase is today’s highlight with the evergreen Kauto Star (3.00) bidding to become the first horse in history to win the race for a fifth time. Three miles around Kempton are the optimum conditions for the Paul Nicholls-trained 11-y-o who is reported to be “as good as ever” in the opinion of Clifford Baker who rides him out most days.

AP McCoy takes the mount in the absence of injured duo Ruby Walsh and Noel Fehily and the dual Gold Cup winner ought to be too good despite his years. Plane
