English Premier League Soccer – Newcastle v. Arsenal

The New Year is now a month old, and there is still much to be had in the world of Sports online betting. Just around the corner is without a doubt the most important betting day of the year. You can continue betting on NFL through the last game with plenty of unique opportunities, while the game itself has the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers within three points of one another in Super Bowl betting. Beyond football, there are several other leagues in play such as hockey and basketball, and you can follow all action by checking NBA Scores everyday.

Over in England, the Premiership also serves up exciting games to watch and bet on. This weekend features a full slat of game as clubs continue to separate, with some battling for the top spot as others look to avoid relegation. Arsenal, contender for the top spot in the league, takes to the road to face upstart Newcastle, a club that moved up from last year and is a formidable opponent this season.

The Gunners look to keep pace with powerhouse Manchester United, who have been trying to run away with the league all year. They have put together a series of wins of late, the latest being a home victory over Everton 2-1 on Tuesday. That was their third straight Premiership victory in a row, and they have not been defeated in seven Premier League games. What’s more, they have been dominating in tournament action, advancing in the Carling Cup and FA Cup. Arsenal has been growing a winning spirit, and the club is playing at a high level.

The only slip up may come from playing on the road. They haven’t done that in over two weeks. Even so, Newcastle has not been dominant at home as the teams in the top half of the table tend to be. Sitting in 10th, they have eight wins and 30 points, but those wins are split equally at home and on the road. However, when they do win at home, they tend to win big, as they have outscored their opponents in 12 matches by a score of 26-15.

These two clubs meet back in November, where the Gunners hosted Newcastle and seemed to have looked passed them, as United won 1-0 on the road. Since then, however, Arsenal has hit a turning point, one that occurred over the holiday season when they beat Chelsea 3-1. That win seemed to have given the club a boost and newfound confidence; they are not the same club from November.

Betting lines: The Gunners on the road are favoured over Newcastle. They are two clubs in very different tiers in the league, and the Gunners have far more name recognition than Newcastle, a club making its return to the league this year. Still, at home, Newcastle has had moments of great play. With a line so greatly favouring the Gunners, it may be worth a shot to take Newcastle with the home draw. Especially since they bested Arsenal earlier in the year. Look for a low scoring match, and Newcastle with the upset.
