Boston Bruins try to force Game 7

The Boston Bruins try to extend the Stanley Cup Finals when they host the Vancouver Canucks in Game 6 on Monday night.

The odds have Boston as -150 home favorites with a total of five goals. Vancouver is a -380 series favorite with Boston +290.

The Bruins trail the series 3-2 despite outscoring Vancouver 14-6 overall. They lost all three games in Vancouver by one goal, the latest being 1-0 on Friday night.

The Canucks deserved to win last game. They were the more aggressive team by far, leading 47-27 in hits. The only goal came in the third period off the stick of Maxim Lapierre. He’s hated by opposing teams for his questionable antics on the ice, but that was a clutch goal.

Boston goalie Tim Thomas has been brilliant overall in the series, allowing just six goals in the five games (1.21 GAA). However, he was criticized by Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo, saying he would have stopped the Lapierre shot. Luongo should probably keep his mouth shut as he’s allowed all 14 Bruins goals this series.

The Bruins will use the Luongo words for motivation, although they really don’t need much more facing elimination.

Coach Claude Julien has to feel good about the two earlier games in Boston. They won 8-1 and 4-0 respectively. Boston really needed both wins, trailing 2-0 heading home last time, so they’ve faced a lot of pressure before.

Vancouver needs to duplicate their emotion and physicality from last game, although it won’t be easy. They don’t want to go back home for a Game 7 on Wednesday when anything can happen, especially with the pressure more on them.

Both teams would also be exhausted for a potential Game 7, having to fly coast-to-coast once again. The Canucks have logged many more miles than Boston this playoff season and it could catch up to them at some point.

First though, Boston needs to
