Manchester City v Leicester City Preview

FA Cup 3rd round replays dominate this week’s live football, and we kick off with Manchester City v Leicester City on Tuesday evening after these two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Eastlands.
It was pretty much a full-strength City side that started the first leg, and with the club looking for their first piece of major silverware since 1981, it’s a fairly safe assumption that Roberto Mancini will once again send out a platoon of multi-million pound stars against the Championship outfit.
As such, you might expect to see City a touch shorter than 1/3 about the home win, and in fact Blue Square’s quote about City is currently the best you’ll find at any UK bookmaker. Leicester are priced up as a 15/2 shot, while another draw is 15/4. For those confident of this one being fairly comfortable for the home side, backing City -1 looks like a cracking Handicap bet at evens.
Such is Carlos Tevez’s form that he is odds-on at 4/5 to score at any time during the 90 minutes in this one, and just 10/3 to score 2 or more, and while it would be hard to argue too much with backing the Argentinean, there is surely better value elsewhere. David Silva could be one such player, and with the Spaniard looking very likely to play as he continues his return to full fitness, backing him at 11/8 for a goal at any time looks like a good move.
Joleon Lescott made a real name for himself as a goal-scoring defender during his time at Everton, an aspect of his game we are yet to really see at City, though the England man remains a genuine threat and at 25/1 looks like a good each-way bet for the first goal of the game, especially as Blue Square offer unlimited places on that market.
Sven-Goran Eriksson’s Leicester currently sit in mid-table in the Championship and have already lost away from home 9 times this season, and only 22nd-placed Crystal Palace have suffered more on their travels this term. That doesn’t bode well for a trip to one of the genuine contenders for the Premier League title, and backing Man City to score in both halves looks pretty good at 4/6 here.
With new loan signing Yakubu ineligible for this tie, Darius Vassell is rated as the most likely scorer for the Foxes against his former club, and you can back the ex-England man to score first at 10/1, while he is 3/1 for a goal at any time in the 90 minutes. Likely strike partner Paul Gallagher is 11/1 to open the scoring, while tricky winger Lloyd Dyer could be worth an each-way punt at 18/1.
Ultimately, you have to side with City here, even more so when you look at Leicester’s away form this term, and another bet with plenty of appeal here is Man City / Man City in the Half time / Full time market. My choice for a Correct Score bet would be City to win 3-0 at a very decent 8/1.
