Epic Wimbledon Rematch!
After last year’s epic battle between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut the duo have been drawn against each other in a mouth-watering first round clash.
The pair, who had the longest ever competitive game of tennis last year on Wimbledon’s court 18, will both be hoping that this time the match is considerably shorter. Wimbledon officials have refused to rule out a return to the now infamous court for Isner and Mahut but the Frenchman will hope to avoid this as he slipped into depression for 3 months following his loss last year.
Mahut said “It will be impossible for me not to think of match”, referring to his depression and desire for this year’s game to be played on a different court. Isner said “It’s weird and it’s cruel”.
Isner, who won the epic battle 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 7-6, 70-68, is hopeful of getting through to the next round again as he holds a clear psychological advantage. He will attempt to use his big serve to overcome Mahut, the American served a whopping 113 aces in last year’s duel.
